I actually fell into the field of firefighting. Three of my best friends from university became firefighters. They really lovedthe job, so when I was looking for a new challenge, they highly recommended that I give it a go. When I applied (along with approximately 1,200 others), only 30 people made the grade, so I consider myself very lucky. I was ready for a more stable occupation: one with job security and a pension. Firefighting was a good fit for me.
